The skin is the body’s largest organ, often considered the 3rd kidney, playing a vital role in ridding the body of wastes and toxins. We eliminate over one pound of wastes per day through the skin!

Every cell in the body depends on the lymphatic system for nourishment and waste removal. This system works like a sewer system with over 600 sites, called “nodes” to collect and remove wastes. Lymphatic circulation requires movement, exercise, and adequate water intake to drain efficiently. Skin brushing is an excellent way to promote the flow of lymphatic fluid cleansing the body of wastes and toxins.

BENEFITS

  • Exfoliates dead skin, and allows the skin to breathe by opening, unclogging, and decongesting the pores.
  • Increases circulation of blood and lymph, revitalizing and tonifying the skin.
  • Stimulates sweat and oil glands helping to restore moist and supple skin.
  • Reduces cellulite. When the lymph and circulatory systems are congested and stagnant, toxins become trapped in fat cells. Skin brushing helps alleviate cellulite and tightens and tones tissue.
  • Calms the nervous system promoting relaxation. Helpful for insomnia, focus, and for children with sensory integration issues.

GUIDELINES

  • Use a natural tampico (vegetable fiber), long handled brush. The bristles should be firm, not too soft and not too hard. Avoid synthetic fiber brushes as they may damage and irritate the skin.
  • Your skin and the brush should be dry. The best times to skin brush is before jumping in the shower or anytime you’re changing your clothes.
  • Avoid brushing directly over open wounds or areas of irritation. Carefully brushing adjacent areas will support healing.
  • If you are a newbie begin with a light touch. As the skin becomes more toned you can brush more vigorously.
  • The basic principle is to brush from the extremities towards the center of the body using long, smooth strokes, covering the entire surface area of the skin. Avoid brushing the face and women should avoid direct brushing of the breast.
  • Start at the hands brushing up the arm. Be sure to include the armpit area with its many lymph nodes. Brush in a circular motion around the breast.
  • Brush the upper back area and up the torso front, back, sides.
  • Brush your feet (bottoms and tops), and then move up your legs.
  • Finish by doing clockwise circles over the abdomen.

Wireless Safety Tips

  • Children Should Avoid Cell Phones:  Barring a life-threatening emergency, children should not use a cell phone, or a wireless device of any type. Children are far more vulnerable to cell phone radiation than adults because of their thinner skull bones.
  • Pregnant Women Should Also Avoid Cell Phones:  Women who use mobile phones when pregnant may be more likely to give birth to children with behavioral problems.
  • Reduce Your Cell Phone Use:  Turn your cell phone off more often. Reserve it for emergencies or important matters.
  • Use A Land Line At Home And At Work:  Although more and more people are switching to using cell phones as their exclusive phone contact, it is a dangerous trend and you can choose to opt out of the madness.
  • Reduce or Eliminate Your Use of Other Wireless Devices:  You would be wise to cut down your use of these devices. Just as with cell phones, it is important to ask yourself whether or not you really need to use them every single time. If you must use a portable home phone, use the older kind that operates at 900 MHz. They are no safer during calls, but at least they do not broadcast constantly even when no call is being made.
  • Use Your Cell Phone Only Where Reception Is Good:  The weaker the reception, the more power your phone must use to transmit, and the more power it uses, the more radiation it emits, and the deeper the dangerous radio waves penetrate into your body. Ideally, you should only use your phone with full bars and good reception.
  • Keep Your Cell Phone Away From Your Body When It Is On:  The most dangerous place to be, in terms of radiation exposure, is within about six inches of the emitting antenna. You do not want any part of your body within that area. So don’t keep it in your pocket, on your belt, or in your purse when on.  Ideally it should be kept at least 2 feet away from your body. Using your phone on speaker mode will keep it away from your body.
  • Remove exposure to other forms of EMR:  Move your clock and other electronic devices away from the head of your bed, eliminate electric blankets, keep your distance away from TV and other appliances, and never use a laptop computer on your lap!
  • Use Safer Headset Technology:  Wired headsets will certainly allow you to keep the cell phone farther away from your body. However, if a wired headset is not well-shielded — and most of them are not — the wire itself acts as an antenna attracting ambient information-carrying radio waves and transmitting radiation directly to your brain. Make sure that the wire used to transmit the signal to your ear is shielded.
    • Blue Air Tube Headset: The best kind of headset to use is a combination shielded wire and air-tube headset. These operate like a stethoscope, transmitting the information to your head as an actual sound wave; although there are wires that still must be shielded, there is no wire that goes all the way up to your head.

Cell Phones, a real cause for concern

“We are on the threshold of the greatest epidemic ever seen”  George Carlo  July 2006

For some time now I have been concerned about the health and safety issue of cell phones. Cell phones produce a form of harmful energy called electromagnetic radiation, or EMR. You may also be familiar with other names for this such as EMF (electromagnetic frequencies), electromagnetic radiation, microwaves, or radio frequency radiation.

The evidence is overwhelming. As convenient and harmless as the technology appears the danger is very real. And unfortunately the problem isn’t limited to cell phones. Other devices, too, generate EMR such as electrical wiring, appliances, high tension wires, cell phones, cordless phones, computers, microwaves, hair dryers, electric blankets, digital clocks, TV, WiFi, satellite radio, GPS and the list goes on.  We are literally awash in an invisible sea of radio frequencies and EMF which create an invisible electro-smog that is affecting people worldwide.  The biological dangers come specifically from two sources: the carrier microwave, and the information carrying wave that actually carries your voice or data on the carrier microwave.

Have you ever wondered if all the cell towers around you are affecting your health? Visit the website www.antennasearch.com to see how many cell towers and antenna towers are near your home or workplace.

The Body Electric:
Our body communicates electrically – we are a very sensitive, highly complex electromagnetic instrument.  We call this our “biofield” and it is a unique as our fingerprint.  Our cells are loaded with receptor sites that respond to electrical signals.  EMF interferes with our own body’s communication system because it resonates in biological frequencies that stimulate our own vibrational cellular receptors on the cell, causing a whole cascade of pathological consequences.  Our cells perceive this as a threat and will shut down many vital processes trying to protect itself which then decreases cellular communication.  Heavy metals and other toxins start to accumulate in the cells and we have an increase in free radical activity on the cellular level.  This can wreak havoc in your body. EMR is yet another toxin added to our increasing body burden.

Look at these facts about cell phones:
“The voluntary exposure of the brain to microwaves from hand held mobile phones is the largest human biological experiment ever.” Swedish study

  • There are now a number of studies linking cell phone radiation to brain tumors and other health risks.  Studies from Sweden, Israel, Finland and around the world are confirming the dangers.  “Cell phone use and brain tumor risk is no longer a myth” and has according to Dr Khurana, a Mayo Clinic Neurosurgeon, “far broader public health implications than asbestos and smoking.”
  • Talking on a cell phone 500 minutes a month increases the risk of brain cancer by 300%
  • Teenagers talk on a cell phone an average of 2600 minutes a month
  • 81% of children between the ages of 15-20 sleep with their cell phones on
  • A child’s developing brain absorbs more EMR (marketing is geared towards children)
  • It’s been said that this generation of children, for the first time won’t outlive their parents
  • The National Brain Tumor Registry is now predicting that there will be 400,000 to 500,000 cases of brain tumors in the US by the year 2010 (a tenfold increase)
  • The US Department of Energy found that using a cell phone severely impairs memory and reaction times while driving
  • Cell phones have been shown to cause DNA damage
  • Testicular cancer has increased 50% since cell phones were introduced in 1984 and sperm count is down 35%
  • Acoustic neuromas are also on the rise

There are solutions:
Because of the severe health issues being reported in the literature I am committed to taking a proactive position on this issue.  See the Wireless Safety Tips for low-tech and high tech strategies for protecting you and your family from the harmful effects of this invisible and perhaps deadly toxin.

GIVE YOUR BODY A GOOD SPRING CLEANSE FOR HEALTH

11 for 2011

START THE NEW YEAR RIGHT

I just love the New Year! I love the tradition of reviewing the past year and envisioning what I want to create in my life for the New Year, don’t you?  Looking at what is important in our lives, what do we want more of and what do we want less of by releasing what no longer serves our well-being. This requires a change in our thinking and change in our behavior.  Now is a good time to reassess and recommit to your vision.

Are you happy with your level of health? Are you wanting more energy, better sleep, less stress, weight loss, less gas and bloating, fewer headaches, pain relief, better moods, glowing skin and sparkling eyes, clear thinking, peace of mind, hoping to reduce or eliminate prescription and OTC medications, looking to find time to exercise, wanting to release an unhealthy habit or two?

‘If you don’t take care of your body, where are you going to live?”

-Anonymous

Well, to have a different outcome means making changes!  Whatever your goal, what you eat will either help you succeed or hinder your good intentions.  The good news is that small steps can make a big difference! Here are some tips to help you on your journey:

1. Drink water. Make pure water your beverage of choice. Try to drink ½ your body weight in ounces per day. Start your day by drinking 8 ounces upon awaking.

2. Chew, chew, chew.

3. Eat a high-energy breakfast every day to replenish your blood sugar and set the foundation of balance for the rest of the day.

4. Enjoy an abundance of plant foods in a rainbow of colors.  Deeply colored fruits and veggies are potent disease fighters.

5. Use only high quality fats and oils.  Avoid hydrogenated and partially hydrogenated oils.

6. Commit to purchasing organic foods to avoid the hormones, antibiotics, and toxic chemicals present in commercial foods.

7. Greatly reduce the use of plastics in the kitchen. Use glass storage containers.

8. Sleep is NOT over-rated. Healing requires resting the mind and the body.

9. Move your body.  Exercise is necessary to prevent stagnation and degeneration.

10. Reduce your body burden – detoxify! We live in a toxic world.  Do a detox/cleanse program 2-3 times per year.  Consider using the infrared sauna or doing therapeutic ionic footbaths on a regular basis.

11. Include positive thoughts, smiles, laughter, and fun in each day.
